Sorry if this has already been discussed but Tech support at Intuit doesnt seem to have any knowledge of the issue and they don't seem to care to either. I contacted 2 support engineers and tried to contact a supervisior but they all blew me off. If your running 2006 muti user DON'T Move or Copy your quickbooks file. My file is on a Windows 2003 Server. I installed Quickbooks to the C: on the server. A few months later the C: was low on disk space so I "COPIED" files from the C: to the D: and moved the shares to the new path. So my Quickbooks files went from C:\Data\QBData\filenames.qbw to D:\Data\QBData\filenames.qbw And I moved the share I had on QBData from C:\Data\QBData to D:\Data\QBData and re-set the correct permissions. Users at their desks were opening either the UNC Name \\Server\QBData\Filename.qbw or the mapped drive Q:\Filename.qbw. The file being opened was ABSOLUTLY the file on the servers drive D: NOT THE OLD FILE ON DRIVE C: Which I left there as a safety precaution. HOWEVER it appears the QuickBooksDB services failed to identifiy which file the users were accessing. For about a week I was unlucky enough to have only one user accessing the system simultainiously. Cuz as soon as 2 people attempted to open the file the system produced a (-6000,-77) error. This error lead me to discover that the QuickBooksDB service was updating the file in the old path not the file the users were specifically opening on the servers D: drive To break the chain I had to stop the QuickBooksDB Service and rename the C:\Data\QBData folder and QBW files in the folder, then start the service again. This caused the QuickBooksDB service to find the correct files on D:\Data\QBData BUT I discoverd that none of the changes for the last week were in the files on D:. So I decided to rename the old folder on C: back to the original name so I could open it in Quickbooks from the server and to do a backup of it. As soon as I renamed the folder back to its original name the QuickBooksDB service deleted the entire tree with all my good data. Sure the users were doing daily backups but the system kept backing up the file on the D: which did not have any of the changes. The file that did have the changes on C: was just permantly deleted by the QuickBooksDB service It wasn't even nice enough to send it to the recycle bin. This is a SERIOUS bug that WILL cause loss of data. Sorry I couldn't get anyone at Intuit to give a hoot but I thought you folks should know DONT Move the Quickbooks files on the server. I can only imagine what other serious problems may be related. Like what happens if your working on multiple copies of the same company on the same server. For example if your accountant is working on an offline copy in another folder might the QuickboosDB service update your live data instead? Not sure what will happen but I suggest until Intuit cares to care dont move the files!
